For New York Ranger fans and all hockey fans today, January 6th, is indeed a Merry Little Christmas as the Players Association and management reached a tentative agreement on a new CBA.
When I was a child we really celebrated “Little Christmas”. Our tree stayed up until the 7th. A small gift was held back from December 25th and opened on January 6th to commemorate the Feast of the Epiphany (also known as Three Kings Day in Hispanic countries). It is the day the Magi, the Three Kings from Orient Far, brought gifts of Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh to the Christ Child in Bethlehem.
Today, three Magi in the persons of Bettman, Daly and Fehr gave the players and the fans the best Little Christmas gift of all, their game back. And although pundits will ponder who came out on top in this new deal, people should put aside their bitterness and embrace their teams and their players.
Sure, don’t buy merchandise or subscribe to NHL Center Ice to show your anger at the league for unnecessarily dragging the fans through another protracted labor dispute. But don’t forget that kids we’ve watch grow to men, to husbands and fathers and mature players can’t wait to play the game for us. They are our Rangers. We are their fans.
Support them, not the League.
Let’s Go Rangers
